Olympics Viral Videos: From David Beckham in a Photobooth To Boris Johnson's Welcome

27 July 2012 by

And so to the Olympics and one element which is proving suitably diverting given that we’re in here, hard at work, the sky’s clouded over (well of course it has) and tonight’s Opening Ceremony seems like a world away. Olympic Virals! Because when a major event happens we can always rely on someone with a video camera/ iPhone to come up with something odd and funny in equal measure! Thanks, The Internet!

We’ve picked our top 5 - including the Brazilian football team serenading Stratford, David Beckham making us cry and The US swim team singing (inexplicably) a Canadian pop song.

Yet more brilliance from viral king, CassetteBoy, with this deftly constructed video pieced together from TV clips of Boris’ short-lived presenting career. Made more brilliant following this morning’s Radio 4 gaffe in which Boris Johnsons described the Olympic fever as a ‘benign virus’.

Where’s Ronaldo? I can’t see Ronaldo. Oh, he’s retired? *switches off*

Proof, if ever proof were needed that David Beckham is second only to God. Or Ronaldo. Oh no, wait…

Cringe! But also impressive. But so . But so impressive. But so OH LOOK THERE’S MICHAEL PHELPS. Singing. Sort of.

Not heard this yet? Well you will do. Every third minute of the next month, every time anyone wins anything, falls over, appears in a sporting montage. It’s not Queen, it’s Muse, and it actually makes us afraid of sport.
