Following the departure of wrinkly rocker Steven Tyler and Miss Jenny from the Block herself Jennifer Lopez, music mogul Randy Jackson looked set to be sat on his tod at the judging table of America’s most popular talent show.
Luckily for Randy, glamazon Mariah Carey has stepped up to the plate saying, “I am so excited to be joining Idol.” Something we’re sure has absolutely nothing to do with the £11.5 million she’s reportedly earning. It’s a good move for Randy’s career outside the show too; he’s Mimi’s manager.
The mother of two tweeted, “It's gonna be so much fun working on @AmericanIdol. As a singer-songwriter, I'm excited to help find and nurture new talent. LYM! –MC”
The rumour-mill has been going into overdrive since J-Lo’s departure last week with sources speculating that she was miffed not to get an offer of more money from the suits at American Idol when she mentioned she was after more pay. A source close to the star however told PEOPLE magazine that this was rubbish. In the end, her departure seems to boil down to the fact that best bud Steven Tyler is off as well. As J-Lo puts it, “We had magic.”
M-Caz’s move is being met with some apprehension. After her appearance on American Idol as a guest judge in Season 7, celeb gossip site TMZ claimed she was, er, a little difficult to work with.
Here’s hoping we’ve got some diva strops of colossal proportions to look forward to next season.
