Inside The Olympic Village With Team GB's Rebecca Adlington, Sophie Allen And Keri-Anne Payne

With just 9 days to go until the start of the 2012 Olympic Games, London is already groaning under the weight of new arrivals. And no, we're talking about the one million plus tourists, games goers, supporters and atmosphere soaker-uppers. This week, London opened it's doors wide and welcomed competing athletes to their new home at the Olympic Village in Stratford. And quite frankly, after following their antics on Twitter we'd like to be there too! Check out our gallery featuring our favourite village twitpics!

From decorating their bedrooms with #TeamGB paraphenalia, good luck mascots and sponsor gifts, to going on date nights and exploring the culinary delights of the dining hall, it seems that athletes from across the world are settling in quite nicely. Phew! Inevitably, there have been a few teething problems after Argentinian rowers Maria Gabriela Best and Maria Laura Abalo discovered that their beds were too small and Rebecca Adlington tweeted a photo of her already messy bedroom. But whether they're roomies with a teammate or, like US 400m runner Tony McQuay, have managed to nab a bedroom in an apartment all to himself, one thing is for sure - these athletes are pleased to be here and want the rest of us to know all about.

The twittersphere has gone into overdrive with the little blue bird working hard to verify the competing athletes accounts so that we can follow and enjoy the very latest gossip. For example, Team GB 200m backstroke swimmer Elizabeth Simmonds tweeted that she'd yet to spot the arrival of French tennis player Jo-Wilfried Tosonga before flirting outrageously with 400m hurdler Jack Green. Oh, how we'd love a bit of romance - provided it doesn't interfere with their medal attempts, natch!

Obviously we'll be rooting for Team GB all the way but we're glad that everyone is managing to squeeze in a little food and fun during their preparation. Let the games begin!
