Anne Hathaway Plays Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, But How Does She Compare To Michelle Pfeiffer And Co?

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman

The latest Batman blockbuster is flying it’s way over to a cinema near you this Friday. Naturally, Grazia will be first in line to catch a glimpse of Christian Bale as The Bat himself (swoon), Tom Hardy as baddie Bane (double swoon) and the incredible Anne Hathaway as Catwoman (seriously, have you seen her in that suit?!).

Anne has said that she all but lived in the gym for 10 months to whisk herself into shape for the role of Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman. “[It was] a psychological terrorist... the suit, thoughts of my suit, changing my life so I would fit into that suit... it dominated my year. I went into the gym for 10 months and didn't come out.”

Wow. But how does Anne compare to other actresses who have also taken on the sexy super villain role?

Michelle Pfeiffer, 1992

Arguably the best portrayal of the villainess, Michelle donned the famous rubber suit for Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, opposite Michael Keaton as Batman and Danny DeVito as the Penguin.

Halle Berry, 2004

Slightly more forgettable was Halle Berry’s slated performance in Catwoman, a spin-off of the Batman franchise in which graphics designer Patience Phillips undergoes some feline side effects from a beauty product.

Julie Newmar, 1966-67

From the popular TV series, Batman, Julie was the original Catwoman. A girl after our own hearts, she made her own Catwoman costume, keen to have the belt at her hips instead of waist, to highlight her hourglass figure.

Anne Hathaway, 2012

From these few glimpses of Hathers in the trailer for The Dark Knight Rises, we reckon she's has got what it takes. And not a kitten heel in sight…

Want to see The Dark Night Rises? See Christian Bale in all his latex glory (sigh) at the IMAX. Tickets are available until 16 August – book online at www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/imax
