Claire Danes Is Pregnant! What Does This Mean For Homeland's Carrie Matthison?

05 July 2012 by

With the joyous news that Claire Danes and husband Hugh Dancy are expecting their first child together, we’re selfishly asking… what does this mean for Homeland’s Carrie? Will they write in a pregnancy storyline or cover up the bump while filming?

We already know that Claire Danes’ character has a possible new love interest in the shape of Keira Knightley’s ex, Rupert Friend, who has joined the cast as CIA agent Peter Quinn. But, there could surely still be a chance that it could be Sergeant Brody’s baby? Oh, the drama!

While we anxiously wait to see what Homeland HQ will do with the news, Grazia Daily look back at who else have filmed through their pregnancies. Sarah Jessica Parker did it during season 5 of Sex And The City, Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders from ‘How I Met Your Mother’ were both (!) pregnant in season 4 and who can forget the reveal of Fat Betty in the latest season of Mad Men? All in the name of concealing January Jones’ baby bump, of course. Can you spot the bump?

‘The How I Met Your Mother’ team wrote in a hot dog eating contest for Alyson Hannigan’s character Lily so that she could show off her round belly. Inventive, no? The team also used TV tricks like getting their two female leads, including Cobie Smulders who plays Robyn, to carry giant handbags and wear baggy tops throughout their pregnancies.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen these tricks used and it won’t be the last. Carrie Bradshaw’s baby bump was hidden with the help of clever wardrobe choices like baggy babydoll dresses and flowing tops that didn’t compromise Carrie’s style.

Well, whatever they do on Homeland season 2, we can’t wait. Plus, how beautiful will Claire and Hugh’s baby be? Congrats!
