Angelina Jolie As Maleficent - How Will She Compare To Other Film Villainesses?

Angelina Jolie Gets Lady Gaga–Style Face Prosthetics For New Role As Maleficent

Filming is underway for Maleficent, the Sleeping Beauty spin-off about it’s evil queen starring Angelina Jolie. As you can see from this first released pic, whoever is on the film’s makeup duty has taken inspiration from Lady Gaga’s Born This Way video, using similar prosthetic cheekbones.

Disney’s Sleeping Beauty in 1959 portrayed Maleficent, the self-confessed ‘Mistress of all evil’ with black horns, a pet raven and seriously pointy cheekbones. Angelina looks fittingly chilling. The forthcoming remake will also star Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora. In the original film, Maleficent is furious at not being invited to Aurora’s christening so curses her to ‘prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and die’ before the sun sets on her sixteenth birthday.

In her, pretty impressive, Hollywood career Ange has mastered the roles of action, drama and thriller (Lara Croft, Mr and Mrs Smith, Girl, Interrupted to name but a few). Fantastical, evil queens may  be new territory for her, but if this picture is anything to go by, she’ll be in good company! Check out our other big screen villainesses…

Charlize Theron played the ruthless Queen Ravenna in Snow White and the Huntsman this month, against Kristen Stewart’s pure princess Snow White. The terrifying performance saw her drink the blood of Lily Cole!

Michelle Pfeiffer played the evil and ancient with Lamia in fantasy adventure Stardust in 2007, opposite Claire Danes and Robert de Niro. Spooky.

Julia Roberts also took on the role as evil queen (albeit in a more comedic role) in another Hollywood version of Snow White this year, Mirror Mirror. She starred opposite Lily Collins as Snow White and Armie Hammer as Prince Charming.

And let's not forget Tilda Swinton in 'The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' *shudders*
