There’s not much we don’t already know about Kim Kardashian’s life. This is the woman who has appeared in a sex tape, got her bum x-rayed on camera to prove it was real, and had every detail of her wedding – and subsequent divorce – broadcast to millions on TV.
Yet this week, the most famous of the Kardashian clan gave an interview to Oprah Winfrey where she plunged the depths of her private life even more – and revealed that she first went on the pill at the age of 14. And not only that – but it was her own mother, Kris Jenner, who encouraged her too.
At the time, Kim had been with a boyfriend for two years, and told her mother she was planning to lose her virginity to him. She told Oprah: 'I was like, "I think I’m going to, or I want to," and she was like, "OK, so this is what we’re gonna do, we’re gonna put you on birth control," and she was like, really open and honest with me.'
Mum of six Kris also manages Kim and the rest of the family – and has been credited for turning her into the multi-million megastar that she is today. It was Kris who encouraged Kim to pose naked for Playboy, and stepped in to broker a deal for her leaked sex tape – which reportedly earned Kim $5million. She’s now turning her attention to her younger daughters. Kendall, 14, posed in a bikini last year for Sports Illustrated, while Kylie 13, did her first modelling shoot last month – all overseen by Kris.
You can read Grazia TV columnist Paul Flynn’s take on Kris Jenner in next week’s issue. But meanwhile, what do you think about Kim’s revelation? Is 14 too young to start taking the pill? And should her mother have been the one encouraging her? Let us know.
