How excited were we when we first showed you pictures of Katie Holmes dressed to portray Jacqueline Kennedy in US History Channel miniseries The Kennedys? Sporting a chic brown bob, immaculate make-up and a plethora of vintage Chanel, it’s fair to say that the actress bore more than a striking resemblance to the iconic First Lady. And just check out the thrilling trailer for the series below, which is totally reminding us of the West Wing.
But it seems despite the similarities, and long-suffering Katie’s hard slog (she reportedly immersed herself in research, reading books and watching old footage of the former President’s wife), the channel has finally yielded to intense pressure from JFK’s surviving family members to pull the plug on the much-anticipated series.
The epic eight part TV film which also stars Greg Kinnear as JFK, was set to air in the States later this year but now is unlikely to ever be shown on American TV after Kennedy scions Maria Shriver and Caroline Kennedy lobbied hard to get it scrapped.
It seems the culling will also come as a blow to Mr Cruise himself who’s been avidly supporting his wife throughout filming, 'Tom watched everything with me,' said Katie. 'He found it fascinating.'
Do you think the channel was right to scrap the series? Do you empathize with the Kennedy family or believe the story should be told? Were you looking forward to seeing Katie take on the role of the iconic First Lady? As usual, let us know your thoughts.
