We’ve got to hand it to you ladies, you sure know how to haggle. In the olden days if you didn’t like your engagement ring you were stuck with it… But now we're hearing reports that sly stylistas are convincing their hubbies to trade up – with a variety of imaginative reasons, the most popular of which we’ve listed below (but would your other half fall for them?)
- The ‘anniver-solitaire’. Made it to your 10th anniversary? That’s worth commemorating surely…
- Just given birth to your first child? That deserves a ‘pushing present.’ Hearing the pitter patter of feet for the second time? Just add another diamond to the setting.
- How about trading in your rock for a ‘three stone’ ring, to symbolise your ‘past, present and future’
- And if you don’t necessarily want bigger, just something different just blame a change in lifestyle. We read about one new mother who said she needed a new ring because her diamond was getting in the way of changing the baby (now that’s not a bad problem to have).
Though evidence points to the fact trading up is now the norm, do you think the men who chose the ring have a right to be offended? How about nostalgia, what ever happened to romance? Or are we such a fickle bunch that’s gone out of fashion as well? [lemondrop]
