We know Tom Ford certainly isn’t prudish – this is the man who shot Sophie Dahl in the buff for YSL’s perfume ad when (faux gasp) she was plus size. He also famously – when he was guest editing Vanity Fair – stripped off Keira Knightly and Scarlett Johannson proclaiming ‘I've always said, and I mean it, that I find people better looking without clothes than with clothes.’
So the designer’s latest sound-bite isn’t really surprising… You see, according to Ford – whose Gucci campaigns were always noticeably naked – everybody, no matter what their figure, should ditch their clothes whenever possible.
‘I spend most of my time at home naked,’ said Ford, ‘You know, most people actually look better nude. We are all one harmonious colour, with a symmetry and an innate elegance."
But it's his next notion that's likely to raise some well-manicured eyebrows, as the designer claims "Fat women almost always look better without the constraint and lumpy pinching of clothes, all the straps and elastic squeezing and sucking."
We’re not sure the press office of his new womenswear ready-to-wear label would thank him for encouraging his customers to become nudists, however do you agree clothes only emphasise flaws; particularly on larger ladies?
And is Ford the new Gok Wan of high fashion? We’d certainly pay to see him running around Oxford Street, stripping shoppers to their undies and yodelling ‘You work it girlfriend!’
