Boredom Buster – one reason to leave the house this weekend and two to stay in!

15 October 2010

Is it just us or has it been the longest week ever? It started off well enough, with a little bit of sunshine, remember? Then it got cold and dark and really, really busy. Anyway in just a couple of hours it will be clocking off time for most 9.30 – 6.30ers (days of Dolly are long gone), and stretched in front of us are two whole days of nothing at all if we fancy. Or two whole days of tv and films! After the summer drought, weekend tv has suddenly got good again, so let’s look at the highlights…

X Factor, Saturday 8pm ITV and Sunday 8pm

Week 2. Will Dannii outdress Cheryl again? Will Cheryl tone down the fake tan? Will anyone listen to Louis? Will Simon come up with a new catchphrase, or will he continue saying people are ‘current’ and ‘modern’, just because they are singing a song from 2006? Will Cher’s raps get tiresome quickly? Yes. No. No. No. Yes, we’re a bit over her already to be fair.

Downton Abbey, Sunday 9pm ITV

We admit it, we love a costume drama. Any costume drama. But this one is a goody. It has lords, ladies, masters, scullery maids, butlers and footmen, amazing costumes, roaring fires, gossip, gay scandal AND Maggie Smith. Hmm, we feel warmer of spirit just thinking about it.

Alternatively if you do feel the need to leave the house? Crazy, but ok. You could go to watch The Social Network. It’s out today you see. We’ve heard nothing but rave, rave reviews, and actually one of the Grazia girls met the cast at the Apple store last week where they took part in an exclusive podcast that you can watch here . Now if that won’t wet your appetite for a low-key weekend, then I give up.
