We thought we’d seen it all…. Aaand now we actually have.
Deliciously bonkers headwear designer Charlie Le Mindu has done the UNTHINKABLE this LFW and sent two of his models down the runway wearing nothing more than his awesome new collection of headwear, a fierce fashion pout and some killer heels.
Le Mindu, has only been showing at LFW for the past three seasons, but in that time has managed to create quite a stir with his extravagant hairpieces, including the ‘Eiffel Tower’ and ‘The Pineapple’, which have famously been worn by loon-tastic celebs like Peaches and Lady Gaga.
Obviously, as a headwear designer and wig maker as opposed to a fashion designer, the emphasis for Le Mindu tends to be from the neck up. For S/S ’11, except where he designed headwear that is so extravagant it covers the whole body (including a leopard print headpiece with matching playsuit as well as capes and floor length dresses made of human hair) Le Mindu’s models took to the catwalk without so much as a flesh-coloured thong for modesty.
So what do we think about naked models on the catwalks? Is it a case of ‘The Emperor's New Clothes’, or just an inevitable step on from the teeny-tiny dresses we regularly see on the red carpet? Is it an empowering statement for a headwear designer in order to keep his work from being seen merely as an accessory, or is it misogynistic and regressive for a male designer (or any designer) to send models down the runway with all their lady parts on show, no matter how artistic or avant-garde their intentions?
Let us know what you think about Le Mindu’s butt-nekkid show using the usual format below.
