Tan tights: will YOU be giving the trend a try?

09 August 2010

As we reported in Grazia a couple of weeks ago, tan tights are officially on trend. No, seriously.

After spotting trendsetters like Beyonce and SJP sporting a subtle sheen on their pins thanks to skin-coloured hosiery, we declared that they’re the way to go this season. Yep, no longer an item of clothing reserved only for grannies and ice skaters, ‘cosmetic’ tights are in the midst of a massive fashion revival. Need conclusive proof, fact fans? Then check out the stats!

According to a new poll of 1,750 British women by Charnos hosiery, 81 percent preferred to wear tights to cheat that tanned and toned bare-legged look. "In this hot weather women want the instant sun-kissed, polished effect," Charnos brand manager Alison Baines told The Daily Express. "They don't need to worry about 'faking it' or streaky pins, they can just pull on a pair of tights and go." What’s more, Marks & Spencer has reported a 28 percent increase in sales of the sheer style and Charnos have seen a 20 percent sales increase too. Well, you can’t argue with that!

But it seems not everyone’s convinced. Because although Grazia Daily is delighted at the thought of never having a bad leg day ever again (yippee!), we’ve heard a lot of umm-ing and ahh-ing on the streets. So what say you? Will you be giving tan tights a try? Or is the trend too American cheerleader for you? Wade into the debate in the space below...
