We caught up with interior designer Kelly Hoppen recently and, as well as sampling the delights of her new QVC home ware range, grilled her on motherhood, being one half of a high profile couple and her recent milestone birthday (which welcomed with pals David Walliams and Matthew Williamson in Ibiza, as you do).
Kelly had some words of advice for other women dreading the big 5-0, ‘Age absolutely doesn’t bother me,’ she said, ‘I feel better now then I did 20 years ago. My partner is 37. Age is a state of mind and people who wind themselves up about it only have themselves to blame.’
Having married at 23 and getting pregnant shortly after, Kelly admits her life’s had an accelerated timeline – not always purposefully. ‘I wasn’t a grown up when I got married,’ she said, ‘I got pregnant. I was silly. But out of it came my beautiful daughter, Natasha and so it was a pretty wonderful mistake. I became a stepmother when she was five because I married for a second time and my husband Ed Miller had two daughters (Sienna and Savannah), who were six and seven.’
After stepping out with celeb crimper Nicky Clarke and footballer Sol Cambell (‘I’m slightly over football now’) she prefers to live out of the spotlight (‘I’m now dating someone who has no desire to be in front of the camera,’) her attentions focussed on her first love – design. With her shaggy chic accessories selling out at QVC, Kelly’s even doing a little presenting, appearing on air on the 25th May at 12pm and 7pm. ‘I believe life is to short, and if you’ve got something to say, say it.’ We’re sold!
