Another nugget of wisdom for ‘nourishing the inner aspect’ from our Gwyneth. Though, oddly enough, this one hasn’t appeared on Goop… can’t think why!
Janea Padilha, a New York beautician originally from Brazil, credited for bringing the extreme bikini wax to the city, has a signed head shot of the actress hanging on her wall, scrawled with ‘You changed my life.’ Gwyneth even invited the waxer to her wedding.
‘[Gwyneth] used to be head-down shy, and you can see how beautiful she is,’ said Janea, ‘I said to her, ‘You have to know what you have inside, because outside you know how beautiful you are. Put your nose up. Put your head up. And I think this made a big difference to her to change her life.’’
Can a tub of hot-wax really be life-altering? Can’t say we’ve ever felt anything but, well, sore, stepping out of the salon… Maybe that’s because us Brits aren’t natural ‘sharers’ like Americans. Should we stop thinking of our waxers as just a preener and think of them more as a therapist?
Janea’s clients describe has as like ‘a mother without the baggage.’ ‘I tell her that I love her and that she’s wonderful,’ said Maria Baker. Jill Frechtman, another client agrees, ‘I tell her about things going on in my love life before I tell anyone else.’
We know what a difference a new hairdo does for our confidence, but can the same really be said for our bikini line? We’re sceptical…
