Sophia Loren: flaunt it or put it away?

At any age, some cardinal fashion rules should be obeyed, with ‘legs OR cleavage’ top of the list (unless you’re a cast member of Gossip Girl, who flout this regardless – and somehow get away with it). Then there’s Sophia Loren, a law unto herself…

The Italian Marilyn Monroe once said ‘The quality of sexiness comes from within. It doesn’t have much to do with breasts of thighs or the pout of your lips.’

So, how do you explain your decision to flash all three of these assets, in one outfit? The Fifties sex symbol stepped out in this less-is-more getup, at the launch of her new TV show.

La Mia Casa e Piena di Specchi (that’s ‘My House is full of Mirrors’ for those who don’t know the lingo) is based on her life story, in which Sophia plays her own mother.

And whilst we have to applaud the 75 year old for her perfect hourglass – that’s quite some cleavage for a pensioner – we can’t help but think the Hollywood legend would look just as jaw-dropping in a more demure outfit.

‘You have to be born a sex symbol,’ Sophia once said, ‘If you're born with it, you'll have it even when you're 100 years old.’ But just 25 years off that centenary, do you think she should flaunt it, or act her age and put it away?
