With Victoria Beckham wearing flats and young stars like Blake Lively regularly flouting the legs or cleavage rule, the fashion bible has been ripped up. How short is too short? When are bare legs too casual? Is it wrong to wear ballet pumps on the red carpet?
Fortunately, American fashion writer Derek Blasberg has written a new guide called Classy: Be A Lady Not A Tramp. 'You might not have been born a lady,’ he writes, ‘but there's no reason you can't learn to be one.’
At the start of the book you can take his ‘do you dress like a tramp?’ quiz…
‘It’s Christmas morning and your grandma has given you a very conservative turtleneck sweater. You:
a) Love it completely. It’s the best Christmas present you could have gotten.
b) Think it will be great for a cold winter’s day but you won’t be wearing it to the clubs.
c) Almost throw it away until you realise that if you cut the neck and the sleeves off you can easily convert it to a knit tube top.
If you answered anything other than A, presumably Derek thinks you need his ‘exceptional advice for the extremely modern lady.’
But let’s not rely on one man’s opinion. Here at Grazia Daily, we want to compile our own classy v. trashy guide. Tell us, what are the rules that you swear by? Which looks are Chanel chic and which fashion faux pas are straight out the trailer park…?
