BAFTA blog: It’s not round, it’s squoval

I, Hannah Marriott, Grazia entertainment editor and fashion amateur (trust me, working on the entertainment desk of Grazia is *not* the same as working on fashion or beauty), am in the midst of the mother of all wardrobe dilemmas. As a jury member for the Orange Rising Star Award I’m going to the BAFTAs – the most glamorous night of the film industry calendar – and I have no idea what to wear.

Help?

I’ve recently discovered that the ‘what to wear’ question is even more complicated than I had at first thought. As well as deciding on the dress (and the shoes and the bag) my hair needs to match, too. In fact, my hair is so crucial to the look that it needs its own rehearsal.

So, last week my hair was rehearsed at Charles Worthington’s very swanky Percy Street salon. Over a glass of bubbly, lovely master stylist Marc Trinder treated me like an A-lister, talking me through my thoughts on my ‘do (namely that I didn’t want to look like a bridesmaid) and my face shape (apparently it’s a square oval and not round as I had always thought – who knew?) before putting my hair up into a messy, asymmetrical do that I really rather liked.

He even gave me some hair homework – my straight fringe was to be grown out, so that on the day of the BAFTAs it could be worn off to the side.

And no, I still don’t know what to wear, but I feel confident my hair is in good hands.

So the picture at the top is of me with my straight fringe at my last red carpet outing, and next is a back-of-the-taxi pic taken after Marc worked his hair rehearsal magic. Thoughts?
