Being famous is amazing, right? Not necessarily. In fact, when we met the cast of Twilight New Moon yesterday at a press conference in London, we felt grateful for our obscurity.
Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner are at the centre of one of the biggest movie phenomena of all time, but unlike the bright-eyed fans waiting outside the hotel for a glimpse of their heroes, they sloped into the room looking a little dazed.
R-Patz has had a particularly surreal year, having to contend with screaming girls wherever he goes. He admitted that he was ‘kind of trapped in a hotel room’ during the filming of the third film, Eclipse, because crowds meant ‘you can’t just wander about…’
He added that – as a budding musician – he missed doing gigs and driving (‘I can’t drive without 10 cars following me’) and said: ‘If I’m still stuck in ten years then maybe I’ll rethink it. I’ll have to see what happens in the next two or three years.’
We know he’s getting paid loads, but we can’t help feeling a bit sorry for him, particularly when he admitted that when he know he has to face crowds of girls he always ‘wears lots of layers so they can’t see I’m hyperventilating.’
Still, he has the support of Kristen, right? Although the are-they-aren’t-they couple dodged questions about their relationship, we caught a telling little moment between them: When Rob joked that he felt ‘inadequate and emasculated’ next to the Taylor – who had beefed up for his role in New Moon – Kristen couldn’t help looking over at him, smiled and tutted, saying ‘shhh…’ You know, like you would to your boyfriend…
