SATC Talking Point: Charlotte vs Carrie

Here at Grazia, we can’t get enough of SATC news. Obsessed, us? We prefer to call it dedicated. And who can blame us, when every other day there’s a new piece of gossip, too good not to share. On Monday, we brought you the revelation that child-star turned sex-symbol Miley Cyrus would cameo in the sequel (along with Katie Holmes, Liza Minnelli and half of Hollywood by the sounds of it...) Now more wicked whispers from the SATC casting couch – it turns out Kristin Davis originally auditioned for the part of Carrie at the invitation of producer David Starr, whom she met in 1995 when she played Brooke Armstrong on Melrose Place (if you don’t remember it, it’s well worth buying the box-set!). It’s hard to imagine Kristin as anyone but the quintessential WASP Charlotte York (after playing the character for 94 episodes, she admits she even answers to the name off-set), so we’re thankful Starr chose Sarah Jessica Parker instead. We doubt anyone but SJP could pull off those Carriesque outfits (visible bras, double denim – she breaks every fashion rule and somehow pulls it off). Kristin also revealed the original character of Carrie was 'very different' to the fashionista we know now, 'much harder and more cynical' (Nooo, that’s Miranda’s role!). We love the Manhattanites just as they are, but if you had the choice would you change them at all (make Samantha more needy or Charlotte a ball-breaker?) You tell us…
