Talking Points: Lily Allen's new career direction

The career cycle of a celeb is a veritable merry-go-round. For most young starlets it goes something like this: Monday, she’s a model, Tuesday, a popstar, Wednesday, an actress who wants to crack America (and by Friday, bored of the limelight, a university student who just wants to ‘lead a normal life’). Lily Cole, Sarah Harding, Emma Watson et al, who have multiple job titles, depending what they’re trying to promote. Now Lily Allen, a girl we thought was ‘all about the moosic’ has announced she won’t be making any more albums, but will pursue a career in … (drum roll please) acting! The 24 year-old (who recently complained she felt ‘old’ in comparison to newbies on the music scene) wrote on her blog, “Just so you know, I have not renegotiated my record contract and have no plans to make another record (applause).” Publicity stunt? It’s possible as Lily is currently leading a campaign over illegal music downloads. “I remain a fan of new music”, she wrote, “So this is not some selfish crusade. The days of me making money from recording music has been and gone as far as I'm concerned, so I don't (at this point) stand to profit from legislation. Except future purchases of previously recorded material (which won't be much).” The singer / Chanel model / fashion designer / actress (keep up) will star in a production of Neil LaBute’s play, Reasons To Be Pretty, in the West End, although first she has a UK tour to complete (which runs until the end of December) so it’ll be a while before she treads the boards. Umm, how much acting training has Lily had exactly?
