Madonna’s sartorial statement

Madonna Madonna

Do you think Madonna is trying to prove a point? The queen of pop couldn't resist a spot of self-promotion whilst celebrating her 51st birthday at the weekend, dressing her adopted children Mercy James and David in T-shirts emblazoned with the slogan 'I heart Madonna' (how very subtle). Currently in Italy, on the European leg of her Sticky and Sweet tour, Madge and her family spent Sunday aboard Dolce and Gabbana's private yacht (jaysus, if this boat could talk. A plethora of celebs have walked its decks this summer – Jennifer Lopez, Dita Von Teese, Claudia Schiffer and Eva Mendez to name but a few). The fashion designers were guests at Madonna's birthday party the night before, held in the exclusive Splendido Hotel in Portofino, where suites cost up to £4,500 a night (of course Madge hired an entire floor). With a sell-out tour, and a red-hot toy boy, you'd think Madge's ego would be elevated enough, so why the need for the tee? Maybe she's missing Guy's adoration (this time last year, at her 50th birthday, he proudly told reporters: ‘She looks better now then she's ever done. I love her so much') or maybe Madge just wants to silence her critics who say her adopted children would be better with their natural parents. Next she'll be teaching the kids how to ‘Vogue'...
