They were two of the strongest candidates throughout the series and, before the Pants Man debacle, many predicted Philip and Kate would star in The Apprentice finale. But last night it was all over for the cocky estate agent – and he blames his ‘close friendship' with Kate. ‘I got the boot because I took my eye off the ball,' he admitted, before adding: ‘Kate is 10 times the candidate I am.' As he sang her praises, Kate wasn't so kind. She urged Sir Alan not to fire her with an impassioned speech about priorities, while Phil's face fell like a puppy whose favourite toy had been taken away: ‘I would never compromise my business performance for personal reasons,' she said. ‘I've got no loyalties here, Philip or otherwise.'
But they clearly kissed and made up because, judging by his appearance on You're Fired, the Kate 'n' Phil show is still going strong. ‘It started the minute she walked through the door and I saw her smile,' he told Adrian Chiles, before dreamily describing it as ‘like one of those '70s films when the girl walks into the scene and things start going in slow motion and they play Close To You by The Carpenters.' Oh dear. So what do you think of Phil and Kate's relationship? Was it all for show? Or is it ‘Phate'..?
