'Is there ever a good time to have kids?'
My partner and I have a great relationship and live in a lovely home we've just finished renovating, using up all our savings to do so. The problem is that we're both desperate to start trying for a family, and the only thing stopping us is our current financial situation. My partner is self-employed in the construction industry which has been hit really hard, and he simply isn't getting the long-term contracts he did in the past, so we have no real security. At the moment I'm letting my head rule my heart and putting it off, but it's breaking our hearts that the only thing standing in the way of our happiness is money. Is it wiser to wait, or should we just go for it, because there's never a perfect time to have a baby? Joanna, 28, Peterborough
