Mary Portas One Life: Over To You

Each week in Grazia, Mary Portas takes one reader and one burning issue and gives them her no-nonsense take on their current dilemma. Now it's your turn to offer Grazia reader Joanna some much-needed advice. Read her letter below and let us know if you've been in a similar situation or can dish out some words of wisdom.

'Is there ever a good time to have kids?'

My partner and I have a great relationship and live in a lovely home we've just finished renovating, using up all our savings to do so. The problem is that we're both desperate to start trying for a family, and the only thing stopping us is our current financial situation. My partner is self-employed in the construction industry which has been hit really hard, and he simply isn't getting the long-term contracts he did in the past, so we have no real security. At the moment I'm letting my head rule my heart and putting it off, but it's breaking our hearts that the only thing standing in the way of our happiness is money. Is it wiser to wait, or should we just go for it, because there's never a perfect time to have a baby? Joanna, 28, Peterborough
