What do you think of French Justice Minister's three-day maternity leave?

08 January 2009

Just in case women needed any more pressure, French Justice minister Rachida Dati has set a new standard for how we are supposed to act just days after giving birth - a) return to work (five days later, even after a c-section, in Ms Dati's case) and b) do so wearing our pre-baby wardrobe and wearing full make-up too, thank you very much. Hmmm... most women are still trying to work out what time of day it is in that first week, never mind turn up to work looking as if we have been through nothing more dramatic than a manicure! The single 43-year old mother hasn't even got the dad around to help as she's still refusing to name him. So, how do these pictures of Ms Dati turning up for her weekly cabinet meeting at the Elysee Palace looking as sleek and glamourous as an off-duty Eva Longoria make you feel? Are we really allowed just a single morning to recover from an emotional and physical trauma like giving birth? Just one morning of tracksuit bottoms? Just one morning of leaving the dark circles under our eyes free of Touche Eclat? Is she the ultimate super mum, or an example of something seriously awry in society today... Let us know below.
