Brideshead Revisited premiere: the best bits!

30 September 2008

The much-hyped costume drama Brideshead Revisited finally had its London premiere last night at the suitably elegant Chelsea Cinema on the King's Road. The star-studded cast rocked up: the gorgeous Matthew Goode and Ben Whishaw, actress of the moment Hayley Atwell and old-schooler Emma Thompson. And we were there watching it all. The best bits? Hayley Atwell's jewel-toned Maria Grachvogel gown and Ben Whishaw bringing along Aloysius, Sebastian Flyte's famous teddy bear. Which brings us neatly to the movie. Critics have been complaining that Brideshead Revisited doesn't measure up to the original Evelyn Waugh novel or the hugely successful 1980s TV series. And while we agree the plot feels a bit squished (particularly in the final hour) it still looks absolutely gorgeous, taking in the canals of Venice, Oxford's dreaming spires and beautiful Yorkshire countryside. And the cast are just brilliant. We're in serious lust with rising star Ben Whishaw. Watch the trailer above, check out the pictures of who turned up last night below and tell us whether you'll be going to see the new Brideshead when it comes out on Thursday.
