Nigella Lawson shares some Christmas tips!

A Christmas tree, buckets of mulled wine and Nigella Lawson – what else could usher in the festive spirit better? Last night we were honoured to have Nigella attend the last Grazia Book Club event of 2010 at Waterstone’s Piccadilly. As Grazia readers swarmed to pick up Nigella’s new book Kitchen for Christmas presents, the cook herself was serenely calm about the upcoming festivities. 'I actually don’t find cooking Christmas dinner that stressful,’ she said. 'For me the stressful thing is thinking of what I’m going to cook, planning the menu. But for Christmas that’s done for you. I do the exact same thing every year.’

For those of you wondering what that is here’s the run-down: a whole ham and macaroni cheese for Christmas eve, the full Christmas works for the 25th and leftover meat (turkey and ham) with baked potatoes, cheese and chutneys for Boxing day. And her top tip for the perfect turkey? 'Marinating the bird in a bucket for two days before with vinegar and herbs. I leave it outside with my son’s skateboards criss-crossed over the top so it’s protected from urban foxes. Or in the kitchen with the door open. My kids complain about the cold, but sometimes you’ve got to choose between family or food,’ she joked.

But don’t despair – Nigella admitted she’s far from a total domestic goddess. She too gets stressed by last-minute Christmas shopping and wrapping, and has had her own Christmas dinner disaster when her oven broke.
