A selection of previously unseen photographs from behind-the-scenes at Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s wedding have emerged and are now up for sale at RR Auction, Boston, USA.
Taken in Buckingham Palace by the photographic assistant of Lord Lichfield – the society English photographer allowed exclusive access to the nuptials – the extraordinary collection features seven black-and-white glossy images, and five in colour satin-finish.
Capturing Princess Diana, Her Majesty The Queen, Prince Charles and other royals, they depict the more natural moments of the day, following the wedding ceremony at St. Paul's on 29th July 1981.
In the historic album, we see Princess Diana in her Emmanuel dress, carrying her youngest bridesmaid, the five-year-old Clementine Hambro.
We also see The Queen beside a television set, on which plays live coverage of the crowds outside, and a shot of the Royal newlyweds on the famous balcony, taken from within the palace.
Bobby Livingston, Executive Vice President of RR Auction, has said, ‘These never-before-seen photographs capture the candid and unrehearsed moments of the fairy tale wedding.’
And indeed he's right, they do. Which is why we anticipate they will fetch a high price when they are auctioned in September later this year.
