Idis Elba: Luther, star of The Wire, the possible next James Bond, DJ, all round mega hunk and now designer for Superdry. Is there anything he can’t do? To celebrate the launch of his debut collection for Superdry our resident Vlogger, Joshington Post took to the Grazia UK Periscope channel to talk to one of life’s best all rounders about his most James Bond like qualities and what we should be gifting the men in our life this Christmas.
Joshington Post: Obviously everyone is rumoring that you will be the next Bond. What Bond like qualities do you have?
Idris Elba: I don’t have any! I don’t have rumor deflection skills either!
JP: Talk me through he process of working with Superdry, how did it come about…
Idris Elba: When we met I connected with them on a friendship level. Then we sat down and thought about what I wear and what’s really comfortable to wear. I have been considered an influencer in fashion… and they wanted to get away from what Superdry is known for, so branded leisure wear and step it up by bringing in some more premium wear, which is where I came in.
JP: Girls find it hard to gift for their men, what would you recommend them gifting from this collection?
Idris Elba: The reversible bomber jacket, it’s two prizes for one-all men like a bomber jacket.
JP: What’s the best Christmas present you have ever been given?
Idris Elba: A pair of trainers. When I was about 10 years old my aunty sent me a pair of Nikes all the way from Washington DC.
JP: What’s the best present you have given your wife?
Idris Elba: ...a holiday!
JP: What would Christmas at Idris’ be like?
Idris Elba: It would be me and my mum, lots of cooking. The TV would be on and we would be watching a Christmassy movie and the music would be blaring. It would all be about family and later on it would get naughtier!
JP: What’s your go to Christmas song?
Idris Elba: It’s Wish You A Merry Christmas… I am all about Christmas carols.
JP: You have played a lot of iconic roles, but is there anyone you really want to play?
Idris Elba: No, but what I really want to do is keep challenging myself to disappear into a character.
