With a modelling career in its early years, but still boasting stints for Victoria's Secret, Calvin Klein and being the face of Estee Lauder, Kendall Jenner is a girl seriously in demand for her beauty.

Yet, in a post on her personal website, she's opened up about insecurity she developed as a result of adolescent acne.

Kendall said of her struggle, "Where it really impacted me was how self-conscious I became about it. It completely ruined my self esteem. I wouldn't even look at people when I talked to them. I felt like such an outcast; when I spoke, it was with my hand covering my face."

For those battling acne, Kendall's words might ring true. Being a teenager is hard enough, and when you factor in skin woes and being filmed round the clock for your family's reality TV show, it's understandable that you could feel self conscious.

Kendall said that while the psychological scars of acne still affect her confidence to this day, finding an 'amazing dermatologist' helped her clear up her skin.

Now, she uses an in-chair laser treatment called Laser Genesis to keep her skin clear, and says her older sisters told her "to keep my hands off my face and to never pick." - which is sound advice.

If we’ve suddenly just developed acne as an adult, what should be our first step?

"Your first step should be to step back from any harsh products you might be using - aggressive peels/masks or strongly fragranced products, for example. And start keeping a journal of your food intake and daily stress levels so you can monitor internal factors."

What skincare and makeup ingredients should be off-limits?

"It's always best to keep your skincare as organic and free of nasties as possible. Avoiding harsh corrective ingredients, such as peptides, acids and retinols would be a good idea you're able to work out the source of the problem."

What should be our new daily routine to treat our acne?

"It's essential to keep the skin cleansed and balanced, moisturised and protected - that means no scrimping on the SPF. I recommend using organic cleansing balms and micellar waters. Products with rosehip, chamomile and frankincense are calming and balancing on the skin. Don't shy away from oils - naturally derived ones, as opposed to mineral oils, can help balance oil production in the skin. Weird but works."

What are some common mistakes adult acne sufferers make?

"Over-cleansing, over-exfoliating, squeezing spots and using alcohol-based products to dry out problem areas are all common mistakes when really you should be looking at your diet, stress levels and exercise. Your skin shows what's happening inside, so look to see if you're eating something that's upsetting your skin. Refined sugar and dairy can be common culprits."

What masks/treatments should we indulge in?

"I sometimes think it's best to step back from masks until the acne has calmed down to avoid aggravating any redness or sensitivity. Clay masks and charcoal masks are excellent for congested skin, providing you can find a gentle, nasties-free one. Once you have removed the mask, make sure to tighten your pores with some cold water or a toner."

How long could it take to see results?

"It can take between 3-6 months to see significant resultsm but within you can be optimistic that in two weeks, your skin ought to be calmer and have a better texture."
