Already feeling a case of the Sunday blues coming on? Fear not fellow Graziettes- you are not alone. Today, 27th October, not only marks the day the clocks go back, but also the day that a staggering 73% of British women experience a dramatic dip in their overall mood. What’s more, a further 60% admit that they suffer a lack of body confidence during the winter months. A recent survey carried out by Venus exclusively for us Grazia beauty ladies has revealed all sorts of weird and wonderful facts about our attitudes to ourselves and beauty regimes during the bitter winter months. According to our exclusive results, the main culprits responsible for low moods, sugar cravings (pass the cronuts, please) and inevitable low body-confidence moments are a lack of sunlight (75%), sub-zero temperatures (64%) and a dull complexion (44%). In fact, according to dermatologists, the effects of winter weather can also increase the skins’ sensitivitiy and irritation, which can add further fuel to the fire, leaving us feeling more drab than fab.

Determined not to let winter take hold of your beauty regime? That’s more like it! Us beauty ladies reckon a pampering beauty regime in the colder months really is essential to our wellbeing and overall mood. So what can we do to help combat said winter blues? Almost 50% of women revealed that attaining smooth, hair free skin is key to achieving a boost in confidence ahead of the Christmas period. Other favoured rituals include facials (27%), fake tanning (22%) and pedicures (23%). However, for those moments when only a quick fix will do, it seems like a spritz of our favourite perfume never fails to do the trick (33% of women) and apparently, a pop of red lipstick also does wonders (18%)!

For a longer term mood-boost, the majority of women believe that eating more fruit and vegetables (49%) or taking more exercise (33%) would help elevate their mood, although many women fess up to not making either action a priority. Heads up, ladies! It’s time to make a positive step towards your most beautiful winter yet. What’s more, with 64% of women admitting that they take more pride of themselves in the summer months, it’s no surprise we’re left feeling blue come winter.

1. SKIN RENEWAL

As Nathalie explains, “Exfoliating regularly helps combat dryness and removes dead skin cells to reveal freshly primed skin.
