Trend Tuesday: How The Nail Index Made Beauty History In 2013

08 October 2013 by

Listen up ladies as we’ve got some breaking beauty news that might just change your world. Seriously. For the first time ever in the history of beauty, sales of nail polish in the UK are set to overtake those of the £229 million lip colour market by over £1 million. This is big stuff, girls. Lipstick’s popularity has always been used as an indicator of tough times in the economy, with sales supposedly rising as the economy plummeted (aka The Lipstick Index). But, there’s been a massive beauty shake-up over the past few months as lips have now been replaced by nails, confirming that we really are mani obsessed!

It only takes a quick glance through your Instagram feed to see that it’s not people’s pouts that are getting the hits but all those incredible manicures- the likes of Rita Ora, Kelly Osbourne, Miley Cyrus and even Cara are all prone to posting their pretty paws. Almost overnight, we’ve become a nation infatuated with manis- whether you’re after the colour of the moment or some serious nail art, there really is something out there for everyone right now. A mere glance at Grazia's Manicure Monday is further proof of the popularity of everyone's new favourite pampering treat- the classic manicure. What’s more, nails are an easy way to try out some of the new season’s colour trends without going full-on and if you don’t like your new hue once it’s dried, you can simply take it off and start all over again. A dream for creative ladies, the possibilities with nail art are endless, too, with every texture imaginable now in a pint-sized bottle- caviar, denim, feather, animal print, speckled egg- the list goes on and on!

What’s more, in this week’s brand-spanking new issue of Grazia we bring you the full lowdown on this latest craze taking the beauty world. In the meantime, we’ve pulled together some of the best celeb manis we’ve spied on Instagram recently. Can you pick your fave?

The latest issue of Grazia is out now…
