Heather Berry of Nails Inc
Heather Berry of Nails Inc has the best job in the world - or at least she thinks so. And to be honest, after her very comprehensive talk on everything about Nails Inc's current and up-coming products and projects, we're inclined to agree with her. Whether she's brain-storming brand new nail polish concepts inspired by trends hot off the catwalk, from black leather nails to the prettiest pastels around; selling the products on QVC or simply having yet another Nails Inc manicure - it's safe to say she has plenty of reasons to get up in the morning and head to the office with a spring in her step!
Heather on what her job entails; 'I've worked at Nails Inc for six years and I love it. I love our office and talking about and thinking about nails all day. My job is to take these cool ideas we come up with and then I work with the product development people with the RND teams Research And Development - in a lab, mainly in the UK where we come up with the formula. Poppy Delevingne is the face of the brand - she's been with us for about 18 months and we love her.'
Black Leather nail varnish and Bling It On glitter
Leather polish is a massive story - in black and mulberry - we got the idea from the catwalk and now it's our biggest trend. It's so easy to wear its even quicker and easier to apply than a normal manicure. In March we're planning to launch a creamy nude buff colour too.
Feather polish is another fab texture trend for this season. As opposed to metallic glitter particles, we've got matte pastel fibres, which creates the look of feathers painted onto the nails. It goes well with pastels and can be worn as full coverage or equally it could be worn over the top of pastel. We always remember to use a topcoat with this one for a long lasting finish.
Our nail model wearing a denim manicure complete with gold star studs
New trend alert; Denim effect nail polish: 'It looks metallic in the bottle but it has a matte finish so it dries down to look just like a pair of indigo jeans. It comes in a kit in which we're also doing the silver star studs to go with. It is a colour that really does suit any skin tone and looks so so good on everyone and really flattering. It’ll launch exclusively in May with Harvey Nichols and then launches everywhere after a few weeks. We have to say we are particularly excited about this one. It's not a million miles away from the Concrete Nails are doing really well for us at the moment. It comes in bright colours and does really well. It's edgy and high fashion and it's a completely different concept for nails.
Embellishment is also something we're doing in a lot of kits - tiny real Swawovski crystals in the kit so you create the embellishments at home. The two options are Rebel and Romance. Now it's coming up to summer we are pushing our pastel colours inspired by collections from Christopher Kane, Stella McCartney and Chloe - they will hit the shops in March so you can shop for it while you're picking out your summer wardrobe at the shops!
Advice from Heather on how to wear your nails: 'There are no hard and fast rules with nails - just wear what you like and you feel good in.'
On fashion nails; 'I always say with nails - its the last element of your outfit that you put on. I would never go out without my nails done.'
On how to get a career in nails; 'I've worked my way up to my job through various roles in the beauty industry, mainly in product development and product management and I'd advise anyone who wants to work in nails to just get applying to beauty companies for work experience and internships and see what you can get. If you can work in a smaller company, rather than a really big multi-national, you'll probably find you can get a lot more hands on experience - which is really vaulable.'
