Exclusive: Grazia Daily Chat To Victoria Pendleton About Her New Pro Cycling Class With Fitness First

21 May 2013 by

During the course of her cycling career, Victoria Pendleton won two Olympic gold medals, nine world titles and a Commonwealth gold. Pretty impressive stuff, right? Throw in campaigns for Pantene Pro V, Hovis, Eukanuba and Halfords, as well as being a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing last year, and it’s safe to say there isn’t much Miss Pendleton isn’t good at!

Victoria’s always been one of Grazia’s fave sportswomen- we’ve always admired her incredible talent on the track as well as her fresh-faced, effortless beauty.

She may have retired from competitive cycling, but our golden-girl won’t be ditching her bike any time soon... We were over the moon when we heard that Victoria has teamed up with Fitness First to create her first-ever fitness class, ‘Victoria Pendleton Pro-Cycling’. Based on the training, techniques and events that Miss Pendleton took part in herself, the programme is broken down into three different classes- the Individual Sprint, the Team Sprint and the Keirin. The classes are 30 minutes of high intensity interval cycling and are set to some of Victoria’s favourite tunes. Get ready to pedal like you’ve never pedalled before, ladies!

We caught up with Miss Pendleton last week to hear all about the new cycling class, her advice on getting bikini and wedding ready and, of course, the beauty products she just can’t live without!

Grazia Daily: Why have you teamed up with Fitness First?

Victoria Pendleton: Fitness First wanted to bring something new to the world of spinning and by having the input of an athlete this makes the class original but also credible and focuses on certain cycling specifics that wouldn’t usually be included in a cycling class. It is also great to be onboard with Fitness First to help drive more people to the gym as I love going to the gym myself! The class is really good fun and quite hard work!

Grazia Daily: What are your favourite beauty products to use whilst cycling to keep you feeling and looking great?

Victoria Pendleton: Neom lip balm is essential, sunscreen every time and Elemis liquid layer.

Grazia Daily: How do you keep your hair looking so glossy?

Victoria Pendleton: At the moment I am using Aveda shampoo and conditioner

Grazia Daily: Even though you’ve now retired from professional cycling, do you still find cycling your exercise of choice?

Victoria Pendleton: I definitely still cycle and really enjoy cycling through the rolling countryside without having to focus on any training objectives. I have also started running which I wasn’t allowed to do whilst I was training in case of injuries. I often run with my dogs which i love!

Grazia Daily: Any top tips to ease the pain of sore muscles?

Victoria Pendleton: Eat as soon as you can after a workout to replace the amino acids. Carbs and protein are essential!

Grazia Daily: What would be your advice to women trying to get bikini-ready for the summer?

Victoria Pendleton: Definitely do my cycling class! Also sign up to your local gym and classes and rope in a few friends to help keep you motivated

Grazia Daily: Are you following a particular fitness plan/diet for your wedding in September?

Victoria Pendleton: Not really. I have cut out all the supplements I used to have whilst training and don’t really eat much meat anymore but not on a specific wedding diet!

Grazia Daily: What kind of bike would you advise for someone starting out with cycling?

Victoria Pendleton: My Pendleton bikes range at Halfords!! They are perfect for commuting, riding to the shops, for fitness or just for riding out socially with friends and family. Try the spinning classes and see how much they improve your fitness out cycling.

The ‘Victoria Pendleton Pro Cycling Class’ will be available in selected clubs from 27th May 2013. For more information please go to www.fitnessfirstuk.co.uk/VictoriaPendleton
