@gwynethpaltrow and @kendalljenner are big supporters of Earth Month
Team Grazia beauty are big, big fans of Aveda. Not only is their London-based spa a total haven of relaxation (merely walking through the door and breathing in the cult Stress Fix scent renders us weak at the knees) but their stellar hair and beauty products always have a pride of place on our bathroom shelves. What’s more, our love affair with the eco-minded beauty brand got a whole lot more serious back in 1999 when Aveda pioneered Earth Month, an entire 30 days dedicated to raising money and awareness for environmental organisations. Earth Day was celebrated yesterday by millions of people all over the world, although over at Aveda, the celebrations last a whole lot longer…
For over 30 years, Aveda have been committed to its mission of caring for the world we live in and setting an example for environmental leadership and responsibility. Every April, the entire Aveda community unites for Earth Month- raising money and much-needed awareness for the 768 million people around the world that still cannot access clean water. With a whole host of green initiatives taking place in-salon and across the beauty brand this month, us Grazia girls give our full support to such a fantastic cause. The unique month-long event hopes to raise over £185,000 for UK charity partner WaterAid, as well as striving to a support a global target of £6,000,000. Way to go, Aveda!
So, how can you get involved? We’re already stocking up on Aveda’s limited edition Light The Way Candle, £16- a delicious blend of organic ginger and ginger lily- with 100% of the proceeds going to charity. In fact, just £16 enables one person living in Madagascar access to a lasting supply of safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation for 365 days. We’re also loving Aveda’s nifty Earth Month Shower Timer, a clever tool made to highlight just how precious this resource is. With recent research showing that the average shower lasts 6 minutes, this is the perfect time to start being more mindful during your daily routine. Did you know your daily shower uses over 50 litres of water? Gulp.
What’s more, this year, the Aveda Communications Team will be taking party in their annual 30 Day Yoga Challenge, with Yogic philosophy echoing that of Aveda and its Ayurvedic heritage. Whether you’re already a yoga bunny or want to show your support for the team’s stellar efforts (and sore legs) then you can donate at their Just Giving page.
The money raised this year will go towards supporting communities in Nepal, where nearly two thirds of the population don’t have access to safe sanitation and also a specific women’s empowerment project in Andhra Pradesh, India.
