Pantone have just unveiled their official colour for 2014 as radiant orchid. Us beauty ladies are beyond excited about this new hue and cannot wait to embrace this versatile shade on our nails, eyes, lips and cheeks come the New Year. In fact, on this bitter December afternoon, we’re taking serious heart in the spring-likeness of this gorgeously floral shade. The likes of Coco Rocha, Emily Rossum and Selena Gomez have all been spied recently rocking some winning lilac hues and whether you chose to go for a full-on lavender lipstick, play things down with a mauve gloss or opt for a smudgy purple-lined eye, there really is a look for everyone. Although we were big fans of Emerald, last year’s Pantone colour, there’s just something about the freshness of this hue which has got us seriously excited. What’s more, Benefit have just unveiled their latest beauty offering for 2014, Lollitint, a gorgeous candy-orchid coloured lip and cheek tint, out February, which we highly suggest you stock up on for the ultimate orchid glow.

So before you jump in, what exactly is orchid? Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute describes it as “an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones which inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It’s a captivating colour… it’s a little different and it’s a little off the beaten path.” Us beauty ladies couldn’t agree more, and are already making plans to re-stock our make-up bags with this gorgeous hue. Bright and fresh without being too much of a wash-out pastel, this cool shade will make both eyes and cheeks pop (a la Beyoncé) and looks super-chic on nails too.
