Best of backstage beauty at couture

We love Couture week for its way out wackiness and all-round glamour... Allow us to introduce the the biggest and best beauty looks from backstage.

Day glo eyes at Versace

Backstage at Versace a busy team consisting of makeup maestro Pat McGrath and Guido Palau whipped up a beauty storm.  “Donatella was really obsessed with a neon green metallic that’s in the shoes and in the clothing… So we added just a little strip of eyeliner to the outside of the eyes as a line and a little bit on the inner corners,” explained McGrath.  Paired with flawless skin and bows the statement eyes made a pretty fabulous impression.  Over in Hair Guido created dual-textured hair using Redken Hardware 16 gel on the top section of the head for the more “couture” part, and Redken dry shampoo was left on the back for the “natural” element. “It’s very modern, not overblown out or anything,” he added.

Healthy skin at Giambattista Valli

How gorgeous is the Giambattista beauty look? Grazia fave Val Garland used MAC Mineralize Foundation to create a flawless youthful skin finish, before using a nude-toned gloss called Summer Sweetheart on both the eyelids and lips and a white liner in the waterline to add a futuristic element to very natural makeup.  “This look is very healthily, wealthily natural,” explained Val, “It’s all about beautiful, hydrated skin.” Hairstylist Orlando Pita meanwhile, scraped hair back and left it hanging, tucked behind the ears.  That’s our kind of beauty

Glitter kisses at Dior

We can’t get enough of the Dior Couture backstage beauty look.  For this season’s ready to wear collection Pat McGrath used multi coloured Swarovski crystals on model’s eyes, but took the concept one step further at couture yesterday creating red, pink and purple jewel-encrusted lips inspired by Dorothy’s jewelled red slippers.  We love!

Aristocratic beauties at Chanel

With an air of aristocracy, Chanel’s couture show was a collection of tweed, lace and disheveled deliciousness which also filtered down to the beauty. With ruffled, wispy up do’s littered with exquisite rags and chiffon accessories, the makeup had to play the tough guy.  With heavy, black kohl eyes and doll lashes, it reminded us of a modern Great Expectations.  Another Peter Phillips triumph.

Set waves at Iris Van Herpen

Get ready for some finger waving this season.  Not only is it currently the biggest red carpet trend, it’s going to be the most tried hairstyle thanks to the influence of films such as The Great Gatsby and Gangster Squad.  The Iris van Herpen version came of course with a modern couture twist, with the finger wave transported into the future, with hair set lower on the forward and pulled back for a clean style to show off those couture pieces.

Hooray for grey at Alexis Mabille

Who said grey has to be covered?  At Alexis Mabille, hair was spray painted a sophisticated but artificial grey which was juxtaposed with a youthful French pleat which was tucked under at the nape of the neck for school girl feel - The perfect for the sugary sweet, candy inspired collection we feel...
