Made Up: Thelma Is This Week's Beauty Screen Icon

01 August 2014 by

One of the best things about make-up is keeping your look fresh – whether to complement an outfit, boost your mood or just experiment. To give you some inspiration, say hello to our new feature, Made Up. We'll be bringing you screen stars with a make up bag as unique as their personality. This week, we say go forth and mix up your look à la Geena Davis' Thelma Dickinson...

I want to be:

Thelma Dickinson

Why:

Well for starters you automatically get Louise (aka Susan Sarandon) for a BFF. Plus you get to discover your sexuality (with a certain Brad Pitt, no less) and become empowered, on a roadtrip that - certain moments aside - is pretty rocking. Thelma is the sugar to Louise's spice, and despite a no-good husband, manages to escape her hum-drum life for the Sisterhood. Y'all can't wish for more'n that.

Thelma & Louise's Best Beauty On Screen

In the infamous Polaroid selfie the pair took at the start of their trip, Thelma's make up is bold and brassy. She's all about volumous red hair, mauve eyeshadow and a pink lip gloss and blusher combo. Combine these with a look that says 'I'm escaping my jerk husband for a weekend of boozing and line dancing with my best bud' and you'll be a dead ringer.

1. For big hair that's more current than Thelma's early 90's curls, try injecting some volume into loose locks with the classic Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray  (£21.50/125ml). If you're also rocking her red locks, keep your colour vibrant with John Frieda's Radiant Red Colour Protecting Shampoo (£5.89/250ml) which promises shiny results - even when driving with the top down.

2. For Thelma's baby blues, sweep your lids with any combination of the four shades in Rimmel London GlamEyes Quad Eye Shadow (£6.99) in State of Grace. If you're heading out for the night (line dancing, or similar) enhance your peepers further with Dior Addict It-Lash (£22) in It-Purple too.

3. Achieve her youthful flush (assuming Brad Pitt isn't available) with Charlotte Tilbury's Beach Stick in Las Salinas (£30) before slicking on a hint of pink lip gloss - try the oh-so-inviting YSL Gloss Volupte Lip Gloss in shade 19 (£21), and you're ready to hit the road.
