Last night we slumped the sofa and ordered in some sushi to watch the long-awaited Brit Awards 2013. From the glamorous dresses to the sparkling diamonds, we loved it all. We’ve already chosen our favourite fashion looks from the night, so thought it was only right to get down to the important business of analysing the evening’s hair and makeup trends too.
Ashley Roberts and Rita Ora
1. Bun Deal
Messy buns were a huge trend at London Fashion Week last weekend, so we are pleased to see that Rita Ora and Ashley Roberts have been paying attention to their catwalk references. Or at least their hair stylists have… While Rita worked her bun with a deep side part, Ashley piled hers on the top of her head. We love both versions - don’t you?
Jordan Dunn and Taylor Swift
2. Straight Up
Queens of chic Jourdan Dunn and Taylor Swift kept things straight and simple on the red carpet last night. And when you have gowns like theirs why, quite frankly wouldn’t you? Just be sure to bear in mind that a heat protectant spray is essential when you are working with hairdriers and straighters.
Lana Del Rey
3. Braidy Bunch
Props to the gorgeous Lana Dey Ray for her chunky, over-the-shoulder braid which couldn’t help but remind us of 2010’s famous Wang braid trialled by everyone from Cheryl Cole to Diane Kruger, Kate Bosworth, Blake Lively and Selena Gomez. LDR proves that it’s still just as fabulous as it ever was.
Katherine Jenkins and Denise Van Outen
4. Raise Us Up
We’ve never been brave enough to trial the quiff, but at last month’s SAG awards January Jones was and received raptous applause on twitter. At the Brits last night both Katherine Jenkins and Denise Van Outen joined team quiff. What do you think of their efforts.
Gemma Arterton and Jaime Winstone
5. Hot Lips
It’s true that nothing makes an entrance like a hot red lips and we loved last night’s versions by Gemma Arterton and Jaime Winstone. Want in? Try the amazing MAC Lipstick in Ruby Woo as worn by the models at last week’s Rihanna for River Island show.
Berenice Marlohe and Corinne Bailey Rae
6. The New Nude
Those hesitant to embrace the red lipstick trend would do well to go for the more low key but equally fabulous nude pout. Take example from both Berenice Marlohe and Corinne Bailey Rae who worked super cute versions.
Jo Whiley and Jessie Ware
7. The Line Up
Black eyeliner was big news at last weekend’s autumn /winter shows including Preen, Sister by Sibling and Alice Temperley. We say any excuse to get out that liner! Special mention therefore, must go to Jessie Ware for her fantastic flick and to Jo Whiley for paring hers with cobalt in an impossibly chic doubling-up of this season’s trends.
8. Skin in in
Last, but by no means least, we must mention Australian hip hop artist Iggy Azalea, who proved that a glowy, flawless complexion should never be under-rated. Just check out this lady’s skin! Amazing or what?
