Top 10 Beauty Trends At Golden Globe Awards 2013: Red Wine Lips To Retro Waves

14 January 2013 by

Now we've already talked you through the beauty looks from last night's epic Golden Globe Awards but we wanted to be even more darling and round up the best trends for you. From red wine lips to ballerina buns, there were all manner of looks that we're taking inspiration from this morning.

1. Red Wine Lips

We love a berry red lip and were thrilled to see both Isla Fisher and Miranda Kerr pull two text-book perfect ones out the bag. Isla's was a little more matte than Miranda's glossy, shiny version but both worked a treat. This is hands-down the red carpet lip colour to go for.

2. Ballerina Buns

A neat ballerina style bun is both feminine and elegant so goes perfectly with those long, flowing red carpet gowns. In keeping with their fabulous outfits, both Emily Blunt and Sienna Miller opted for this hair style and it had many heads turning. Emily went for a high places bun that accentuated her cheekbones and pulled her hair up and away from her face whilst Sienna's was a little lower towards the nape of the neck and finished in an elegant classic twist shape. Double winners.

3. False Lashes

The one beauty thing that springs to mind for a fancy do like the Golden Globes is flase Lashes. They're appropriate and fun and give essential lash volume when the paps are snapping away. Both Adele and Rosie H-W worked falsies in very different ways - Adele's were reminiscent of the SS13 Gucci show where models wore double lashes for seriously OTT lash volume, whilst Rosie went for more of a subtle look with just one finer set. Both work very well though, dontcha think?

4. Retro Waves

Any awards ceremony requires going the extra mile in terms of beauty and for this reason we're giving Megan Fox and Jennifer Lopez top marks for their gorgeous wavey hair-do's. The look is very de-rigeur what with films such as Gangster Squad being so talked about and it works best on longer locks. As you can see, the best thing is to sweep hair round to one side and set it in place so that the bouncy waves are on show.

5. Colour-Pop Lips

We noticed a few brights pops of colour at the Globes too, namely on the lovely Jessica Alba and Thandie Newton. Ms. Alba went for a pop of orange, something she quite often favours, whilst Thandie worked a summery red. A bright shade is the perfect way to jass up a formal red carpet dress and these two have got it just right. Their fun, bright shades remind us of both the Burberry and Temperley SS13 catwalks and we'll be testing our own this afternoon to give our lips thier own pop of colour.

6. Metallic Eyes

We spotted a few metallic eyes too last night and the best thing about this is that anyone can work it. It's super-flattering and suits any eye colour so is one for you to try yourselves at home. Taylor's soft brown metallic eye went perfectly with her brown dress and beautiful earrings whilst Kaley went for more of a burgundy colour. Don't be shy when trying this out, go heavy on the outer edges of the eye to create contours and depth as well as shimmer to make your eyes stand out.

Taylor Swift; Kaley Cuoco

7. Classic Blowdries

A classic 'Chelsea' blowdry always goes down well at a smart event and we knew we'd spot a few winning ones at the Globes. Blonde beauties Kate Hudson and Amanda Seyfriend did two fab versions - Kate's a bouncy, sleek number and Amanda's more of a tousled but flowing finish. This is easy to do yourself and requires a decent hairdryer and silky finishing product. Hair envy all round.

8. Blue Eyes

One of the more unusual trends we spotted was blue. Yep, in particular blue eyes, as seen on both Nicole Richie and Kerry Washington. Whilst you might think this is a bit of a weird choice to go for, it actually works really well on both the girls. Nicole went for a soft, frosty pale blue and Kerry chose a mroe midnight purple hue. Yes this is a quirky choice but actually we really like it. Be brave and try it out yourself...

9. Heavy Liner

A thick slick of black eyeliner is a) very cool and b) very on-trend. As seen at the Jonathan Saunders SS13 show, it's a fabulous look that you can interpret in your own way to either be more on the grungy side or a bit more sophisticated and classic. Dark beauties Eva and Anne wowed with their dark lined eyes which as you can see really accentuates their look and frames their eye area. You can always blend the colour with a liner brush to soften the line of it.

Eva Longoria; Anne Hathaway

10. Porcelain Perfection

The last trend we loved and just had to mention is pale. Confused? What about if we mention the names Amy Adams and Jessica Chastain.... because these two flawless beauties really stood out against the more tanned A-listers and it's their milky, porcelain complexions that we love. Just like the retro hair wave trend we've talked about, this is another old-school trend that is classic and under-rated. We'll be making an effort to avoid fake-tan and bronzer in order to emulate these Hollywood hotties and their beyond-perfect skin.
