1. Graphic Eyes At Versace

According to the legendary Pat McGrath, Donatella wanted to do something different this year, “She wanted couture-modern, but also something graphic, aerodynamic, and fun.” Pat certainly delivered, with her somewhat futuristic take on the classic cat-eye look with an iridescent teal shadow swept across with eye and curled false lashes. The models’ brows were neatly groomed, complexions softly highlighted and lips were painted a subtle nude matte.

At Fred Sathal the models were given an ‘undone’ shadow look for their eyes. The intense black with blurred edges made an effective contrast with the shimmering faces and necks of the models, when teamed with the roughly plaited up-do it created a rather ethereal effect.

12. Natural Beauty At Giambattista Valli

When asked about the inspiration behind the beauty look, Val Garland stated Giambattista “likes the idea of a young, beautiful woman just getting up out of bed, throwing her hair up and just leaving the house in her couture”. If only our beauty routines were that simple! The models do however look gorgeous and classically chic, just like the couture.

31. Familiar Faces At Jean Paul Gaulthier

As expected, Jean Paul Gaulthier opted for a rather unconventional beauty look for his show, choosing Eurovision’s Conchita Wurst as one of his models. Heavily made up with thick false lashes, those eyes are certainly captivating.

33. Pre-Raphaelite Beauty At Valentino

34. Romantic Hair At Valentino

This models hair looks just like the Pre-Raphaelite muse Lizzie Siddals, a spectacular glossy copper colour in perfect waves. Altogether the look at Valentino was highly romanticised beauty.

Viktor & Rolf opted for understated, almost washed-out beauty look for their models, who were all wrapped up in red couture. Lips were made paler and cheekbones more pronounced with contouring.

Hair had that just washed look, free-flowing and natural, which gave the models an air of youth and innocence.

The Autumn Winter 2014 Couture shows have started off with a bang, with the ever fabulous Donatella Versace setting the bar high for the rest of the week. Whilst the intricate designs are expected to take centre stage when it comes to couture, bold beauty looks are always a pleasant surprise. If what we’ve seen so far is something to go by, then expect a lot of dramatic winged eye make-up teamed with more neutral, muted complexions – a look we’re more than happy to imitate from home.
