Rihanna in the latest MAC Viva Glam campaign
Life’s not all beaches and bikinis for Rihanna (although a glimpse at her Instagram feed may suggest otherwise). In a case of bad gal gone good, the popstar has teamed up with MAC cosmetics for the brand’s latest Viva Glam campaign, which raises money for people affected by HIV and AIDS.
Rihanna follows in the footsteps of Nicki Minaj and Lady Gaga as spokesperson for MAC’s Viva Glam line, which launched in 1994 with a campaign featuring drag queen RuPaul. In the latest campaign, a platinum-haired Rihanna poses topless, sporting a slick of frosted red Viva Glam lipstick. The entire sale price (minus tax) of the lipstick and matching lipglass go to the MAC AIDs fund, which helps to support men, women and children affected by HIV and AIDs all over the world.
Since its launch the fund has raised more than $315 million purely through sales of the limited-edition lipsticks and lipglasses, and this year it has pledged to donate $2 million to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDs, which will help to expand HIV testing and treatment programs for young people worldwide. “I'm honored to join forces with the M·A·C AIDS Fund and UNAIDS in the fight against AIDS," Rihanna commented. "I want to help reach as many young people around the world as I can.”
The fund will have no problem reaching its target if Rihanna’s previous collaborations with MAC are anything to go by. The singer’s limited-edition RiRi Hearts MAC make-up collections sparked an online frenzy – her cult red RiRi Woo lipstick sold out in three hours.
With their creamy, blue-red frosted shades and covetable packaging (complete with Rihanna’s signature), we predict the Viva Glam collection will be similarly sought-after. And if helping to cure AIDs isn’t a good enough excuse for a new lippie, we don’t know what is.
VIVA GLAM Rihanna lipstick, £15, and lipglass, £14, are available at MAC counters now.
Rihanna shared this Instagram snap of the products, with the caption 'VIVAGLAMrihanna is available NOW!!! Only at MACcosmetics.com !!! The reason this particular lipstick collection is so special to me, is that @maccosmetics makes sure that EVERY PENNY you spend on a #VIVAGLAM lipstick goes directly to the #MACAIDSFUND which helps men, women, children and families affected by HIV/AIDS!! Thank you ladies for your support #macgirlzRule' (Instagram @badgalriri)
