Ever since Marc Jacobs announced he was entering the world of makeup last year we have been a teeny bit obsessed. He has created 122 pieces and bagged Edie Campbell to model the collection, but the MJ beauty butterflies haven't stopped as the collection hits shelves in the US today. Oh but that's not all as Marc is opening his first ever beauty store in Manhattan today. So we'll be needing to go to New York, urgently.
The 500-square-foot space on Bleecker Street will stock his iconic fragrances and his colour cosmetics collection. It's like a beauty candy shop, with a sleek mirrored back wall with a heavy granite table as a centrepiece and Edie Campbell's face as wallpaper. But it's the makeup which has our undivided attention, from the makeup bags in MJ ready-to-wear prints to the 'Style Eye-Con' colour palette.
Marc has a growing NY property portfolio, as Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Bookmarc and Little Marc stores are all located on Bleecker Street. WWD spoke to Robert Duffy, president of Marc Jacobs International, about the expansion who said that Jacobs felt strongly about opening the store because he is 'extremely passionate' about beauty.
Marc is beauty obsessed, just like us. He has said about makeup: 'I like the idea of transforming oneself, making and modeling yourself to what you feel like being, whether that’s once a day, three times a day, seven times a week, whatever it is.'
The colour collection will also open today in Sephora and 11 other Marc Jacobs from LA to Miami. Sadly London is not on the list. But Duffy doesn't rule out expanding the beauty empire as he said: 'It depends on how it does. When we launched Bookmarc, I thought it would be the only one, and then we opened one in L.A. and in Paris and in London. And we’re about to open one in Tokyo. At practically every store I’ve underestimated the amount of people who will come.'
So come to London next, yeah Marc? Until then drool over the Marc Jacobs beauty collection in the gallery below...
