With just two weeks left until the launch of Lorde's mini collection for MAC, the singer's given an interview about how she developed the new products. Available online from June 5, the limited edition range features just two beauty goodies - a lipstick called 'Pure Heroine' in her trademark plum colour and a liquid liner callled 'Rapidblack'.
Lorde's following in the footsteps of big names like Rihanna and Lady Gaga who've both had sell-out ranges and the collab seems like a great match. The beauty brand created the dramatic make-up looks for Lorde's tour and MAC's senior artist Amber Dreadon often helps the singer pick out the dramatic lip colours for her performances.
Lorde's spoken about how much she loves MAC's products in the past, explaining how she saved up to buy her very first MAC lipstick. 'I have loved MAC Cosmetics since I was a little kid,' she said. 'I remember saving up to buy my very first MAC lipstick [Snob] at 14, and it was used by about 20 of my friends!'
Lorde caught up with Women's Wear Daily this week to chat inspiration, product development and.. err... Kanye West?! Here are the highlights from the interview....
1. The lipstick's multipurpose
'The finish [of the lipstick] was important to me. I wanted people to be able to use it as a lipstick or press it on as a stain.'
2. She was very involved with developing it
'I’m very much involved — I’m designing the sets for my shows, I’m designing the lighting for my shows, I’m designing my merchandise. Basically, everything to do with me, I’m doing. I would get bored just doing one thing. I have a very clear idea of what everything needs to look like, to sound like. And I’m really bad at delegating.'
3. There's a reason why there's only two products in the collection
'I kept it short because I wanted to make the two products more important to me, that would be a good addition to anyone’s makeup bag. But I’d like to do more lipsticks.'
4. She's not sure if she'd release a fragrance
'I don’t know about a fragrance, because I think I would have to find a way to make that feel cool and authentic, make it feel like me.'
5. Oh... and she's been inspired by Kanye's 'vision' since she was a child
'Because I think his vision, how closed-off he is in his vision — he has a very strong sense of himself. Grace Jones, too; she’s an icon and so badass.'
