While us beauty ladies love dabbling in all sorts of new beauty potions and lotions, sometimes our skin screams out for a detox. Enter clean beauty queen Imelda Burke, organic skincare expert and founder of the London based natural beauty boutique Being Content. An apothecary showcasing cult organic make-up and skincare brands as well as a naturopathic clinic and beauty salon, Being Content is a one-stop-shop for a head to toe holistic overhaul. Imelda herself is at the forefront of the organic beauty movement; no longer a hippy health-store niche but a way of life for green beauty buffs and anyone concerned about clean living. As she explains: “in the early days, colours and textures were lagging behind the conventional brands. But luckily in the past few years natural make-up has had a revolution and now I am spoilt for choice!”
We caught up with Imelda to find out exactly which natural products make the leap from Content’s shelves to her own organic make-up bag. Read on for her natural make-up must-haves…
Inside Imelda's make-up bag
Vapour Atmosphere Luminous Foundation, £35: I love this foundation stick from Vapour. It gives a medium coverage with a dewy, luminous finish. It’s great for skin that is prone to dryness and doesn’t settle in any ‘lines’.
RMS Beauty Cream Eyeshadow, £19: A creature of habit, I have used the ‘Magnetic’ cream eye shadow from RMS Beauty since 2009. It’s the perfect colour for day and is so quick and easy to apply with your finger that once you start using these eye shadows it’s hard to use anything else.
W3LL People Hypnotist Eye Pencil, £13: I love this black pencil. It’s great for creating a smoky eye or I use it for a sharper line if I want a more dramatic evening look.
ILIA Nightfall Mascara, £22: It can be difficult to make the swap from conventional mascaras to natural ones, but this one has become a staple in my bag. It gives lashes a smooth coverage of black ‘ink’ for day or I let it dry between layers to build up a more dramatic coverage for night.
ILIA Lipsticks, £20: I always have one of the Ilia Lipsticks or Conditioners rolling around in my bag. The colour swaps around depending on the seasonal limited edition launches but at the moment I’m addicted to ‘Wild Child’, a bright red.
Vapour Aura Multi-Use Blush, £29: I’ve use the Courtesan colour from Vapour for cheeks for a while. I love that it doubles as a lip colour too. Often multi-use products are good for cheeks but not so much for lips, but this one ticks all the boxes.
RMS Un Powder, £28: I use lots of cream products because I love the finish on the skin, but I add a finishing powder when I know I need the products to last for an event or a longer period. My current favourite is the superfine ‘Un’ Powder, which mattifies the skin without making it look dry.
RMS Beauty Living Luminizer, £30: This is every natural beauty’s secret weapon. A sheer, non-sparkly luminizer, it gives the skin a healthy glow. My bag is never without it.
Absolution Le Baume, £12: I use this multi-purpose balm for lips and in winter on weather-induced dry skin.
Tata Harper Hydrating Floral Essence, £52: I always keep the small size of this mist in my bag. It’s an amazing skin plumping tonic, which can be used to spritz skin when travelling or when skin feels dry. I also use it to set make-up.
Lotus Wei Quiet Mind Energy Mist, £29.50: I alternate between ‘Inspired Action’ and ‘Quiet Mind’ depending on what’s going on! This one is great for clarity, focus and a quiet mind during the day and is amazing for using before bed after a busy day.
