We always knew that confidence was sexy, but new research out today confirms this really is the case for us Brits. The poll of 1,000 women carried out by QVC reveals that the majority of British women want to exude a look of confidence (65%), over any other trait; including appearing sexy (26%), intelligent (12%) or youthful (3%).
The poll also revealed that the beauty icon that best represents the look of confidence is Jessie J, who is recognised by her strong make-up look with bright lips, colourful eyes and rosy blush. However, 77% of British women admitted they didn’t have the courage to pull off such a strong beauty look, opting instead for a more natural appearance like Kate Middleton, whose look 46% of us try to replicate.
QVC’s beauty map, created by Dr Chheda Varma, aims to help women create a confident beauty look
The moments that women voted as wanting to look most confident included job interviews, a night out with friends, and a date, with make-up named as the most important tool to nailing a confident appearance. What’s more, the results showed that 69% of men voted a confident woman as most attractive to them. Tanned skin was found to be the ultimate confidence boosting make-up fix, closely followed by a bold brow, rosy cheeks and red lips.
QVC psychologist Dr. Bijal Chheda-Varma, explains, “Make-up choice can greatly influence how a woman wants to be perceived by others around her as well as how she feels about her self-confidence. Make-up has been used for centuries to help women enhance aspects of their persona, yet the study shows how many women don’t have the courage or knowledge of how to create a confident look.”
