Sophy Robson

When it comes to nail royalty we reckon Sophy Robson is totally up there. After all, Sophy is one of the UK’s top manicurists and has worked on everything from shoots with Vogue to catwalk shows to campaigns for Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford and Vivienne Westwood.  We even spied Sophy backstage working her nail magic at the SS14 House of Holland show at London Fashion Week last month. It’s safe to say Sophy is a high-fashion favourite, and it’s not hard to see why- with her unique approach to nail art and jaw-dropping precision (what Robson can do on a nail is truly outstanding) she is a real nail pro. Over the years, Sophy's name has become synonymous with super-cool manicures and seriously stunning nail art- get your fix at her salon, installed at Hari's on the King's Road. What’s more, at the latest Boots Let’s Feel Like New event, which showcased new season trends, we managed to catch up with Sophy to talk all things nails. Read on and learn girls, read on and learn…

Grazia Daily: So, what kinds of colours should we be stocking up on this season?

Sophy Robson: At the moment I’m really into garish, fluoro pastels like peach, lilac and neon lime green. I’m also obsessed with white nail polish too- Essie Nail Polish In Blanc, £7.99 and Butter London Nail Lacquer in Cotton Buds, £12 are perfect for creating a stunning white nail.

GD: And what kind of nail shapes are now on-trend?

SR: It’s all about the squareletto (a longer square with a tapered shape) this season so keep an eye out…

GD: Nail art isn’t going anywhere any time soon- any top tips to keep it looking fresh and different?

SR: Keep to simple lines and patterns such as an accent line on a simple white nail- this is a key summer trend. Sometimes less is more; it is nice to have a simple design or just a plain nail. Doing different things on each nail is cool, but only if you can't decide what you want!

GD: Any nail art no-no’s?

SR: I  can’t bear seeing badly shaped nails- there really is no excuse! So, make sure you have a good nail file- I love Boots Salon Smooth Nail Files, £1.25. Messy lettering is also a nail no-no, so make sure to keep the lines neat.

GD: Do you have a favourite top coat?

SR: I’ve been using Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, £9, for quite some time now. Tried and tested and still the best.

GD: Do you have any favourite colour combinations?

SR: I love pink and green, but acid yellow with black and pale blue also look stunning together.

GD: This long winter has left our nails looking a little dry and flaky- any top tips?

SR: Be sure to use a good hand cream and a nail oil- I swear by CND Solar Oil, £11.95 and Boots Salon Cuticle and Nail Moisturiser, £4.20 is a total steal and works a dream!

GD: What are your top tips for encouraging short stubby nails to grow into lovely long ones?!

SR: A nail protein treatment is essential for nail growth- use this religiously every day until they get stronger along with a good nail oil to condition. Try OPI Nail Treatments Avoplex Nail and Cuticle Replenishing Oil, £16.50.

So what lies ahead for Sophy? Her very own nail brand? Stay tuned girls, stay tuned… You read it here first! In the meantime, stock up your new season make-up bag and refresh your beauty look with some of this season’s hottest nail trends…
