Amazing music, no muddy wellies and beaming sunshine? No wonder the celebs love Coachella! This weekend saw swarms of Hollywood's hottest head to Palm Springs for Summer 2013's very first festival. Despite the soaring temperatures, our fave celebs still managed to look totally gorgeous, whether sporting a punchy pout or a stunning fishtail plait. After scouring Coachella for the most desirable hair and beauty looks, we've pulled together ten red-hot trends that we just can't stop staring at. What's more, each and every one of these looks is totally DIY-friendly, meaning that uber-trendy festival look can be yours in a matter of minutes...
Plaits at any festival have always been a total must, and this was no exception at Coachella. Perfect for getting hair off your face, this is a great look that actually works better when hair isn't squeaky clean. Check out the Hilton sisters rocking some serious Cali-cool chic with their matching plaits. We're obsessing over Nicky's Heidi-esque 'do which is ideal for ladies with slightly longer face-shapes. Great work, sisters!
2. Embellished Nails
Festivals are one of the only times you can really road-test a look and we’re head over heels for Vanessa Hudgen's metallic mani. OK, so gem-encrusted talons might be a little impractical for the office, but if you can't do it at Coachella, when can you?
3. Beachy Waves
This weekend, the desert was swarmed with celebs rocking the three-day-old hair and beachy waves with some serious panache. This is one look that just oozes the chilled-out summer vibe, and one we can't wait to try out. To capture the easy, relaxed look try misting Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray on to damp hair, finger through and let hair dry naturally. Don't be afraid to spray liberally here, the more the better!
4. Fringe Infatuation
Who needs a floral headband when you have a fringe?! We heart Sophia Bush's heavy fringe (and full credit to her for keeping it looking so perfect!) although Ms. Chung's easy-breezy fringe is also seriously hot. We love!
5. Loud Mouth
Our fave makeup look came in the form of some serious bold pouts. A look sported by many celebs over the weekend- most stylishly on Diane Kruger- this is one beauty trend that works really well for a festival, especially when a long queue for the portaloos/lack of mirrors means makeup application can be a little trickier than normal. Time to make your pout pop, ladies!
For those moments when the Batiste just won't kick it, take note from the glitterati and don a hat. Black bowlers were clearly the order of the day for Chanel Iman and Julianne Hough who managed to keep their festi-hair under wraps whilst looking seriously chic. Rock on!
7. Glowing Skin
Coachella is held in a desert, meaning it's super-hot during the day and freezing at night. We don't know about you, but such a change in temperature would wreak total havoc with our skin! Trust the likes of Alessandra Ambrosio to retain her signature glowing complexion whatever the weather throws at her. Armed with BB cream and a good bronzer, this look is totally achievable, regardless of whether you’ve got the supermodel genes or not! Come sunset, build up the look with a liquid highlighter on cheekbones.
8. Emerald Envy
Ever since Stella McCartney’s models donned the emerald eye this S/S, this is one beauty craze that shows no signs of dying down anytime soon. Festivals are the perfect excuse to embrace a little colour, so it’s no surprise that we totally loved Santigold’s metallic green liner. Still scared to go green? Take note from Paramore’s leading lady Hayley Williams and apply liner only on the bottom for a more subtle effect.
9. Eyes To Kill
It wouldn’t be Coachella without the ubiquitous smoky eye. This time around, the festival staple seemed a little more grown-up than usual, as shown by Ashley Benson and Jessica Lowndes. The look here was smudged, sooty and seriously sultry.
10. Bold Brows
Any time we see a set of really strong, defined brows (cue Chloe Bridges and Sky Ferreira) we love the look and how well it frames the wearer’s eyes. However, faking the look can be a little intimidating. Fear not, ladies! Instead of a brow pencil, why not try a brow powder and brush duo for a softer finish.
