'She’s The Face Of A Generation' - WATCH Charlotte Tilbury Talk Kate Moss At The Makeup House Of Rock N Kohl

18 June 2013 by

Last night, we stepped into Charlotte Tilbury's wonderful world of beauty, also known as the Makeup House of Rock 'N' Kohl. The makeup maven has decamped to Selfridges on Oxford Street to treat her fans to an abundance of beauty know-how as well as access to her super-starry mates. She's called upon her closest contacts, from Nicola Formichetti to Alice Temperley, to join her on the sofa for an intimate chat over a glass of Veuve Clicquot.

Charlotte kicked off the fun by hosting an opening party that saw Mario Testino, Helena Bonham Carter and none other than THE Kate Moss arrive to toast Tilbury's 20-year-old career. The evening also saw the grand unveiling of She’s Light (Pure), a ground-breaking and iconic light installation of the UK’s most iconic supermodel which takes pride of place in the Selfridges window. It truly is a sight to behold and as you walk around the large scale image, Kate's eyes move with you, hologram style. It'll be exhibited exclusively in the Makeup House of Rock ‘N’ Kohl window until Sunday 23rd June so be sure to get down there and experience it for yourselves.

Charlotte took part in a panel discussion alongside the photographer behind the stunnning image, Chris Levine, as well as hair stylist Malcolm Edwards. 'Kate - she’s a genius, she’s the face of a generation,' said Charlotte of Mossy, who she also compared to Marilyn Monroe and Marlene Dietrich. 'What struck me about the piece is it’s kind of 1930s, like a hand painted photograph and we wanted it to have that almost like black and white feel about it.' Mission accomplished! 'I love collaborating with artists, so when my dear friend Charlotte asked me to do this project with Chris I was really excited, as his work is so unique,' says Kate of the unique collaboration. 'Chris captures from the outside what you feel inwards. It is amazing how he captures your spirit.'

‘We talked about Kate being an iconic image of our time and also capturing something serene which casts a spell using that technology,’ said Chris who has also shot the Queen. ‘It was about making her look luxurious and having a sense of ease to reflect the icon that she is, and we all wanted the image to be timeless.’ Charlotte agrees that she wanted it to feel like Kate was transcending time and looking into infinity. ‘I’ve never seen Kate in all the years I’ve worked with her in such a peaceful trance!’

The House Of Rock N Kohl is kitted out to look like a backstage area during Fashion Week with oodles of makeup, rows of mirrors and beauty stations as well as Team Tilbury on standby to provide makeovers. The Wall Of Fame shows candid snaps of Charlotte with the many stars she's preened at shoots and shows, from Gisele to Cara.

The flame-haired beauty has also recruited celebrity chums to contribute to the Kissing Gallery that features lip prints from the likes of Sienna Miller, Carine Roitfeld and Penelope Cruz. Some of the lips prints have been used to create an extra special make-up bag that will be sold exclusively at the store with all money raised being donated to one of Charlotte’s favourite charities, Kids Company.

The Makeup House Of Rock N Kohl has been launched in the run up to Charlotte launching her very own make-up collection exclusively at Selfridges in September. 'I wanted this beauty festival to give customers ‘money-can’t-buy’ experiences and let them in to my exciting world of beauty, fashion and artistry,' Charlotte told us. 'I’ll be sharing some of my backstage secrets, make-up tips and tricks as well as giving customers access to some of the industry’s most elite beauty and fashion experts at the amazing talks in store each evening. As a make-up obsessive, this is definitely a beauty event not to be missed!' We couldn't agree more.
