Beauty SOS: Top Tips For How To Instagram Your Skin

Love the way you look on Instagram? Obsessed with adding the odd filter here or there to really make your complexion pop? Fear not, fellow Graziettes, as you are not alone. It seems we’re all harbouring a secret addiction with those notorious Instagram filters- run a photo through the right one and brighter eyes, whiter teeth, a bronzed glow, dewy cheeks or a pretty, rose-hued pout can be yours in a matter of seconds. Want to get the look for real? The latest products promise full-on soft focus and complexion-perfecting benefits. All you need to do now is smile…

With its burnt caramel hue and 70s golden halo, this nostalgic filter gets lots and lots of love on Instagram. As make-up artist Mel Arter explains, “It’s toasted, wet, holiday skin which, thanks to new formulations, is now achieveable even in flat autumn light.” Want in? We do: “Go for water-rich base, like Max Factor Whipped Crème Foundation, £9.99, which has soft-focus technology. Use a creamy bronzing make-up base over the top, buffing it into the skin with a short-haired buffing brush. Try Spackle Tinted Under Make-up Primer, £23.24, for a discreet, otherworldly glow.”

This filter gives you that dreamy, blurry effect not dissimilar to Vaseline on the lens. Gorgeous? We think so. Try one of the new complexion-correcting sprays, such as Dior Airflash CC Primer, £30, which contains futuristic photo-smart pigments and hydrating hyaluronic acid. Make-up artist Andrew Gallimore says, “Hold the can 20cm away from your face and layer in light doses. Finish by buffing into skin with a foundation brush.” Andrew also stresses that this look is all about an egg-shell finish, so steer clear of the sparkle.

This look replicates the ‘magic light’ you only get at sunrise- we love, and so does make-up pro Wendy Rowe. “I love this filter because it gives your skin a flawless, even-toned look. Use a new-generation tinted moisturiser that gives both light coverage and radiance.” Want in? Arm yourself with Burberry’s Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base in Golden Radiance, £34. Complete the look with L’Oreal Paris’ Lumi Magique Instant Radiance Enhancer, £10.99, which scores our big beauty points for its gorgeous liquid-light technology and fresh gel consistency.

A true Grazia fave, this clever filter adds more flight to the centre of the photo, fading to dark around the ages for a guaranteed youthful glow. This season, it’s all about creating a subtle halo of light down the middle of your face- and it’s super easy, according to make-up artist Caroline Barnes: “Apply your usual foundation all over, then, with a compact or stick, go one shade lighter on the T-Zone and blend with the warmth of your fingers- it’s like walking around with your very own beauty light.” Try one of autumn’s cream compacts, which give skin a traceless bloom. Try Giorgio Armani’s Maestro Compact Makeup, £30 for a seamless Amaro finish.
